This is a matter of choice but if it is a matter of money then you can get away without a website. If it is about control then you must rather get a website. Maybe the answer could lie in a combination of both.
Get a website that you have to pay for but a web host that allows you to run an Affiliate Program which if done correctly could pay for your website. This way you will have the website for free.
